Todd Carpenter To help Realtors understand and interpret today's industry trends, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) hired Todd Carpenter to fill the new position of managing director of data analytics. Carpenter was most recently senior manager of industry engagement at Trulia.com and was NAR's director of digital engagement earlier in his career. NAR is also creating a data scientist position; this person, yet to be hired, will report to Carpenter. Mike Fratantoni The Mortgage Bankers Association's (MBA) Mike Fratantoni has been appointed chief economist following the departure of Jay Brinkmann. Fratantoni, currently VP of single-family research and policy development, will take over the position in February 2014. In addition to chief economist, he will also take the role of SVP of research and industry technology. In a statement, MBA president and CEO David Stevens praised Fratantoni, saying he "has been an invaluable resource to MBA and its members as they try and navigate an ever-changing industry." Paul Lee Mortgage Contracting Services (MCS) announced that Paul Lee has been named CFO. Lee will work in the company's North Texas office, succeeding Michael Carroll, who is retiring after serving more than eight years in the position. Before joining MCS, Lee most recently served as VP and treasurer of Texas-based Safety-Kleen Systems Inc., a leading provider of used oil re-refining, parts cleaning, and industrial waste management. He previously served as VP of finance for Capital Senior Living, one of the largest operators of senior living communities in the United States. David Yavorsky ValuTrac Software, a software solutions provider to the appraisal management and mortgage lending industry, announced the hiring of David Yavorsky as the company's new chief information officer. Throughout his 30 years in the industry, Yavorsky has also worked in senior management positions at Preferred Resource Management, Inc.; Integrated Business Systems; Arbor National Mortgage; Citicorp Mortgage, Inc.; Metropolitan Real Estate Tax Service; and Travelers Mortgage, Inc. Cristy Ward Mortgage Connect has appointed its VP of sales to the newly created role of chief strategy officer. Cristy Ward has worked in the mortgage industry for 17 years and in that time has earned a reputation as a problem solver who develops innovative, tailored solutions for complex problems. In her new position, Ward will be responsible for leading the company's business strategy, developing and implementing revenue-generating strategies and policies, and leading new business ventures and development. Amy Alving Amy E. Alving was elected to serve on Fannie Mae's board of directors. Alving is a seasoned technology leader who worked from December 2007 to September 2013 as SVP and chief technology officer at Science Applications International Corporation, an engineering and tech applications company. With Alving's election, Fannie Mae's board says it hopes to widen its scope of expertise and strengthen its governance of the GSE's business transformation as it evolves with the housing market. Lorenz Schwarz Lorenz Schwarz has been named president of Green River Capital (GRC) in addition to his current role of COO of that business unit. Schwarz, who has served as GRC's COO since 2012, is now responsible for managing all of GRC's day-today operations. "Lorenz has done an outstanding job since joining GRC a couple of years ago," said Paul Bossidy, CEO of parent company Clayton Holdings. "With 25 years of experience in the REO industry, he has displayed unmatched domain knowledge and a deep commitment to world-class customer service." Bill Griffin Bill Griffin, EVP at Lender Processing Services (LPS), has been elected to serve on the Mortgage Bankers Association's (MBA) board of directors. In his current role at LPS, Griffin leads the company's efforts to identify and deliver solutions and data and analytics to assist some of the country's biggest financial institutions in reaching their goals. "Bill's keen strategic insight into the issues impacting today's mortgage industry . . . will prove invaluable in helping the MBA build a better future for our industry and deliver more value to consumers," said MBA chairman E.J. Burke. David Towers RealtyTrac, a Californiabased information provider for the housing industry, announced the appointment of e-commerce specialist David Towers as SVP of revenue generation and operations. In his new role, Towers is tasked with overseeing RealtyTrac's website and call center operations as well as growing and improving revenue for the entire company. His work will have him collaborating with RealtyTrac's national sales department and product management teams to develop new ways to optimize operations. Rob Katz Rob Katz has joined ReverseVision's executive team as EVP of sales. Katz brings to ReverseVision his experience and contacts from more than 15 years of service in the mortgage industry. Throughout his career, he has served as chief information officer for a publicly traded mortgage banker and as EVP of sales and eventually president of DataTrac, an industryleading forward mortgage loan origination system. Joseph Cuomo Joseph Cuomo, SVP and director of business development for online real estate marketplace Auction. com, has been recognized by Real Estate Forum magazine as one of the commercial real estate industry's "Top 45 Under 40." Working as SVP of Auction. com's Commercial Real Estate division, Cuomo has been key in closing the sale of more than $5 billion in commercial notes and properties on the company's online platform since 2012. E. Michael Rosser MBA Education, an educational initiative launched by the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), presented E. Michael Rosser, CMB, with its inaugural MBA Education Lifetime Achievement Award. Rosser has had a long and storied career, having attended his first industry event with his parents in 1948 and working most recently as national account VP with United Guaranty until his retirement in 2011. Among his many achievements is his accreditation as a Master Certified Mortgage Banker, the highest professional honor within the real estate finance industry. The M Report | 15
