mnotes All for One—This Month, Industry Pros Rally Together to Overcome Mortgage Challenges O n the surface, this month's featured articles may not seem to have much in common. While one examines private mortgage insurers, another shows how title pros are tackling TRID. A third story examines CFPB mortgage complaints. Despite these disparate topics, all share the common theme of rallying together to overcome what seem like insurmountable challenges to the industry. No matter what segment of the business you represent, there are many lessons to learn from the experienced professionals who shared their knowledge this month. Our cover story, "The Rebirth of MI" takes a comprehensive look at what it was like for private mortgage insur- ers during the height of the mortgage crisis—when claims rolled in faster than some companies could handle them. The downturn claimed several notable casu- alties. However, candid commentary by the CEOs of Arch Mortgage Insurance, Genworth Mortgage Insurance, MGIC Investment Corporation, and Radian Group makes it clear how other com- panies came out the other side stronger than ever and how others were born out of the ashes. With the looming TRID deadline front of mind for those from all ends of the industry, we reached out to title professionals to get their perspective on the changes coming down the pipeline. In "Title Professionals, Lenders Must Prepare for Industry Changes" we get a two-pronged approach to TRID by Kevin Wall and John Hollenbeck of First American. Wall explains how TRID could restore faith in the mort- gage industry and possibly bring an important borrower group—the millen- nials—to the closing table. Hollenbeck takes a micro approach toward TRID and outlines three key issues that should be on every title and settlement professionals' mind. In "Then and Now" Jason Nadeau, Scott Gillen, and Abe Spohn of Stewart Lender Services don't mince words when they warn that moving from HUD-1 to TRID could have unintended consequences. Narrowing in on five key ramifications the new legislation could have, they seek to prepare mortgage professionals for the bumpy ride ahead. Lastly, in the "Numbers Don't Lie," our own Kerri Panchuk and Brian Honea examines CFPB mortgage complaints and the takeaways of a recent Black Knight Financial Services and Five Star Institute white paper. This paper analyzed data from the CFPB database to give greater context to these numbers than can be gleaned at first sight. And of course, don't miss our special Title & Escrow Guide, which gives an in- depth look at the leaders in the title and escrow realm, and how they can help you run your business more efficiently.
