MNOTES Delving into Compliance Issues C ompliance can no longer afford to take a back seat in today's new and improved mortgage market. Whether it's government regulators, the 24/7 news media, or the average homeowner—all eyes are on mortgage professionals, making sure all i's are dotted and t's are crossed— and shortcuts are a thing of the past. Tied in closely with the issue of com- pliance is the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act and the watchdog organization it cre- ated, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Now on the cusp of a new ad- ministration, many are wondering how a change in leadership will affect the future of both. Ryan Schuette explores the possibilities in "R.I.P. Dodd-Frank." Another recent headline-maker, the Fed's recent rate hike, is the topic of "Braced for Impact" by The Hon. Joseph Murin. As former President at Ginnie Mae, and cur - rent Chairman of JJAM Financial Services LLC, Murin has the industry experience and vision to weigh the short- and long- lasting impact of the Fed's current actions. Then in "Expect Delays" Patrick Sinks, CEO of MGIC Investment Corporation, examines the future of housing finance reform, and how a lack of uniform standards could delay indus - try momentum. Lastly, Xhevrije West examines the chain reaction that has been set off in the mortgage industry by the cascade of recent regulatory requirements in "The Domino Effect of Compliance." To do so, she spoke to some of the nation's top compliance technology companies, finding out what they envision for the future of mortgage compliance. As this issue shows, while the pres - sure on compliance can mean rising costs and paperwork, it has also ush- ered in an exciting new era for mort- gage professionals—an era filled with new technology and partners ready to do business with you. Learn about some of these compliance leaders in our special Compliance Guide and see how companies are rising to the challenges the changing compliance scene presents.
