MNOTES W e've got an action-packed issue for you—one that examines the latest regulatory changes, tech trends, and industry insights from mortgage's best and brightest. On the cover, we've got former CFPB Attorney Richard Horn's "TRID 2.0: More Headache Than Help?" A deep dive into the newly amended TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosure Rule, Horn's piece questions whether the CFPB's revision really achieves its goal: to demystify and clarify its predecessor. We're keeping in that same vein with "What TRID Did: A Mortgage Insurer's Perspective" by Sara Millard. Millard, who serves as General Counsel at Arch Mortgage Insurance, looks at TRID through the lens of our industry's private insurers. Has it helped the market grow? Or have un- necessary compliance burdens held us back? Millard has some insight. On the heels of the Five Star Conference's Military Heroes Keys for Life event, our final story is "Reporting for Duty," a piece that examines how Caliber Home Loans has made serving veterans its primary focus—and exactly what steps the company has taken to do it right. Written by Caliber's own Lauren Abney, it's part one of a two-part series on the company's laser-focused VA lending approach. Next, in "Show Them the Money," Fifth Third Mortgage's Ed Robinson delves into down-payment assistance programs. According to Robinson, they just may be the solution to today's lopsided market, which sees abun- dant high-income buyers and investors, but few low- to moderate-income earners and younger buyers. Robinson even offers up some tips to help lenders level the playing field for these underserved buyers. Speaking of younger buyers, in "Digital Domination," Johann Juan from Fitch Ratings talks about the ever-growing trend of digital mortgages—a popular option for today's millennial borrowers. According to Juan, digitiza- tion of the lending process isn't just easier on buyers; it's also improving lender efficiency, cutting costs, and improving credit availability. Finally, you'll find our Origination Service Providers guide, a comprehen- sive catalogue of the nation's most acclaimed mortgage originators. It's an issue packed full of information, insight, and intrigue, and I hope you find it useful.
