Top 5 North Dakota The lowest unemployment rate can be found in North Dakota, the top ranking state for millennial homebuyers to succeed. Along with the second lowest housing cost in the country, and the number one state with the best quality of life, North Dakota is the smartest choice for the younger generation to buy a home. Minnesota While Minnesota may not be ideal in the weather department, it does rank number one with the highest millennial homeownership rate in the U.S. If young homebuyers are willing to endure those harsh winters, Minnesota is a livable choice. South Dakota This state has one of the lowest unemployment rates and percentage of millennials living with their parents. Ranking low in these categories could make the home of Mount Rushmore also a great state for millennial homebuyers to lay down roots. Iowa Iowa has the lowest housing cost for millennials compared to any other state. Not only that, the state has one of the highest millennial homeownership rates and lowest unemployment rates. With these rankings, Iowa makes living easy. District of Columbia As highest percentage of millennials living there, our country's capital is the hot spot for where millennials want to be. Although it has one of the top highest housing costs, it also is first on the list for highest median household income for millennials. Bottom 5 West Virginia West Virginia has one of the lowest percentages of millennials, which probably correlates to the state ranking in the bottom three in the quality of life category. In fact, the state ranked in the bottom for education, health, and economic health, making it the worst state for millennial homebuyers. Mississippi Millennial home buying for this charming southern state doesn't look good. Having one of the lowest median household incomes and ranking one of the highest in unemployment rates, it might be best to stay away from this state's market. Alabama This state also neighbors Mississippi in the bottom ranking for millennial homebuyers. With the highest unemployment rate, it may be best to beware when thinking of securely living in this state. New Mexico New Mexico is in the top tier for most pleasant weather in the nation, but the state ranks number one for lowest percentage of millennials with health- insurance coverage. With bottom rankings for quality of life and economic health, millennials should look into another state for home buying. Arizona Save money on air conditioning costs because buying a home in one of the hottest states in the country is not worth it for millennials.
