MNOTES Traversing the New Landscape of Mortgage Banking A s mortgage professionals tread into the new landscape of the mortgage market with altered topography and roadways paved by changing regulations and a different mindset among both professionals and consumers; mortgage firms must find the right vehicle to traverse this new territory. The market turns to technology providers seeking vehicles with sleek elegant solutions to new processes, enhanced speed to meet market demands, and updated styling to meet all the new regulatory demands. Just as regulators place strong demands on mortgage firms, those firms in turn place strong demands on technology service providers; and tech firms are rising up to meet new expectations. In "Star Tech," Brian A. Lee sums up the new challenges facing the tech - nology sector—and the industry as a whole—amid the demands to grow "bigger, better, faster." While technology firms are rising to the challenge, integra - tion will be key moving forward. With all the rushing to meet new regulatory demands, it may be time for a glass of water, and we're hoping your glass is at least half full. At least it is for Ron Terwilliger, Chairman Emeritus of Trammell Crow Residential and Founder and Chairman of the J. Ronald Terwilliger Foundation for Housing America's Families. In "Seeing the Glass Half Full," Terwilliger explains a change to the cher - ished mortgage interest deduction could actually stand to benefit the industry—if the industry can rally together and con- vince the government to relegate the sav- ings to promote first-time homeownership and affordable rental housing. Change is always difficult, especially when it comes with a financial burden. However, in "No Need to Break the Bank," Vincent Spoto, Founding Partner of RRMS Advisors, explains that many technology solutions are far simpler and far less costly than they may first appear. One of the issues top-of-mind for many right now is the impend - ing implementation of the Federal Housing Administration's Electronic Appraisal Delivery portal. In "The 5 Es of a Successful EAD Implementation," Mike Floyd, Chief Appraiser and SVP of Compliance at StreetLinks Lender Solutions, lays out an effective frame - work for lenders and vendors as they navigate the new portal. Next, we take a tour of the mortgage technology sector with our Tech Guide, featuring profiles of top providers. As you shop for the shiny new vehicle to carry you over the bumpy road ahead, use this guide to help you find the right solution for you. From the tiny bumps in the road to the major obstructions and the foggy mornings where you can't quite see what's ahead, we know the industry is prepared to weather any storm and surpass any obstacle. And we know the innovative tech firms within our industry are here to transport us to the future of mortgage banking with elegant, intuitive solutions.
