MNOTES O riginations: It's one of the most important facets of our industry—and one that is constantly changing and evolving. The way lenders work, the regulations they're subject to, and even the data and technology they use are all constantly in flux, but de - spite these continuous changes, originators are finding ways to get by and stay successful year after year. In fact, Freddie Mac recently forecasted a banner third quarter for originations, as well as a 40-year-low mortgage rate for 2016. It doesn't get much better than that. To delve into how lenders are doing it, as well as their strategies, best prac - tices, and other methods for tackling the ever-changing landscape, we chose to focus solely on lenders this issue. Here's just a snippet of what you can expect from MReport's "Best in Origination" special on the forthcoming pages. First, Ryan Schuette talks to Franklin Codel, head of Wells Fargo Home lending, about his leadership style and how he keeps his department at the top of the lending game. Codel took the helm after longtime leader Mike Heid left a year ago and hasn't looked back since. In Jerry Halbrook's "In the Fast Lane," we also jump into big data–specifically how it can boost the industry and improve results for homebuyers across the country. Halbrook even covers how lenders can leverage data to predict buyer behavior and increase customer satisfaction in the long run. It wouldn't be an originations issue if we didn't talk HMDA, though. And in "Pulling Back the Curtain," that's just what we do. In this piece, Altisource's Melissa Kozicki takes a look at upcoming changes to the act, as well as how those changes will impact both originators and consumers. She also breaks down how lenders can move forward easily and seamlessly as more HMDA changes are on the horizon. Then, in our Take 5 section, we sit down with Edward L. Robinson at Fifth Third Mortgage. Robinson talks challenges, regulatory compliance, refinancing, interest rates, and other hot-button issues. It's an insightful piece you definitely don't want to miss. Finally, our "Best in Origination Services" Guide gives you an in-depth look at companies who providing services, tools, and tech to ease the origination process for all involved. So whether you work in originations yourself or you're simply in the midst of buying or selling a home, take this issue in. It can offer you unique perspec - tive on what goes on behind the scenes of the originations industry–and how it impacts the final outcome for both lenders and buyers.
