MNOTES P redicting where the market is headed is always a challenging task— however it's one we take head on in this month's issue where we examine the trends and tools that will be a large part of 2017. In this month's cover story, staff writer Brian Honea examines the wild ride the refinance market has been on since the Brexit vote. In "No Thru Street" Honea follows the numbers to answer the question of whether the refi - nance boom seen over the summer can sustain itself much longer. Next, in "Walking a Tightrope," Treliant Solutions' Dr. Anurag Agarwal and Brenda Taylor share how lenders can ensure compliance and fair lending prac- tices using new technology, allowing them to be more vigilant, more consistent, and more intelligent on the whole. Further exploring changes in lending is Vincent Spoto, partner and managing director at RRMS Advisors. In "Servicing Surveillance," he talks about proper servicing oversight and how that can foster regulatory compliance, mitigate risk, minimize defaults, and help both the lender and the end buyer. Spoto also shares strategies that lenders can use to improve their own servicing surveillance–strate - gies he says could have helped years ago, before–and during–the big collapse. On the theme of new tools changing the industry, Chad Mosley of MCS Solutions tackles the age-old practice of plywood-ing vacant homes. Though used for many years to board up windows and doors on abandoned properties, Mosley says plywood is no longer working for servicers and investors, causing homes to become unsightly, unsafe, and a veritable target for criminals. Options such as polycarbonate are rising in popularity, preserving the home's image as well as neighborhood property values. Lastly, don't miss our special data and analytics guide. Thanks to emerging technologies, data and analytics are playing an increasingly larger role in our in - dustry every year. They're allowing us to predict and model consumer behavior, mitigate risks, improve outcomes, and better serve buyers and customers across the country.
